Voyage...A Journey in Song is mezzo-soprano Ayelet Amots-Avramson's second CD devoted to lieder/song with Jonathan Zak at the piano. The earlier release, Romeo 7288 included lieder by Brahms, Mahler and Berg. On this new recording, she performs folk style songs in French, English, Portuguese, Hungarian, Ladino and Spanish, truly a remarkable journey in the art of song. Contributing to the enjoyment and sheer beauty of this recital is the superb collaboration of Jonathan Zak, certainly one of the two or three greatest living accompanists in classical music today. While most of the composers whose songs are heard on this CD are fairly well known, there is one, Yehezkel Braun, who may not be familiar to many classical music aficionados. Before this recent death, Braun was one of Israel's foremost composers. Born in Germany in 1922, he was taken to Palestine by his parents in 1924. The most significant influences on him while pursuing musical studies were Haydn, Bartók, Brahms and French music by Debussy, Ravel and Les Six. He became a teacher at the Academy of Music in Tel Aviv University where he taught until his retirement. A representative selection of his solo and chamber works can be found on Romeó Records 7291/2
